Tuesday - Norcia walk

Exploring the Abbey of San Eutizio
Leaving our hotel we walk down and through Preci Borgo where we take a path that leads us to the beautiful Abbazia di San Eutizio, cradle of the Benedictine movement, and erected on the fifth century site where St Spes and other hermits had originally built a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Here we have time to wander around and admire this elegant and historical Benedictine abbey with its cool chapels and courtyards.
From here we start our walk up the agricultural track through the village of Acquaro where we take a gentle path along the mountain side. We have our lunch overlooking the lovely views before following a path which leads us down to the church of San Salvatore in Campi Borgo.

A path from here leads us along the Campiano valley side and up through the pass where we get stunning views of the valley of Norcia and the walled city itself.
Church of San Salvatore, Campi

We descend down into Norcia, the birth place of St Benedict, founder of Western monasticism, and patron saint of Europe. Here we have a chance to visit the main square, perhaps purchase the flavours of the Monti Sibillini in the varied shops and have a drink or home made ice-cream before the coach drives us back to the hotel.
